Google puts great effort into making technology more accessible for everyone. On the 15th of December, the tech giant announced the Matter availability on Nest Home and Android devices. The Matter is a new system that works as a bridge between different smart home device brands and shatters the walls of interoperability. It enables the consumers to use non-compatible smart home products together with Matter support.
Google initiates a groundbreaking step in the smart home world. This platform allows a smart home device from another brand to maximize users’ conveniences. With each passing day, leading companies like Google endeavor to bring revolution through such decisions.
The Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Hub (1st and 2nd generations), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wi-Fi Pro, Google Home, and Google Home Mini are the devices that have become Matter-enabled. If any user has any of these smart home products, then the Matter ecosystem plays the supporting role between the Wi-Fi and other Matter-enabled Thread products.
There will be more features to experience in the first quarter of 2023 in these home devices. According to Google, it will update many devices, including the Nest Thermostat (2020) and the Nest Wi-Fi (non-Pro). Smart home device users will also have the Matter support for the iOS Google Home app in the coming year. A user just has to connect the device to the home network or Wi-Fi to allow the Matter-enabled app to operate it. Google will also grant Android phones the accessibility to complement Matter-compatible devices and connect with Fast Pair to add any latest device to your home in no time.
The unified system, Matter, needs a network which means the system requires Wi-Fi and the Thread to make home devices able to work with other home devices. It leads to minimizing the cloud-system dependency, and smart home products will be able to comprehend the users’ commands more efficiently. Through the Matter platform, these home devices will take less time to process the user’s commands and act accordingly.
The Matter has recently been launched by the Connectivity Standards Alliance. Thread 1.3.0 will set multiple brand home devices in a uniform “border router”. It will ensure that the user can control the various brands without having the confusion of setting several threads in the home.

Another renowned name, Amazon made an official announcement that its 30 Echo will become Matter and Thread compatible. Along with big players like Google and Amazon, one more tech giant, Apple has already announced that its HomePod Mini (2nd Gen) and Apple TV 4K (2nd Gen) are Matter and Thread-enabled.
In a nutshell, a user will be free to use whatever brand of home device. It will not make any difference if the user owns Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, or even HomeKit. Through the Matter ecosystem, all brands would connect without any complexity. As for now, tech geeks around the world have their eyes on more updates from the prevailing names in the tech industry.
