A new 5G chipset known as the MediaTek 1080 has been unveiled by Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek. In comparison to MediaTek's Dimensity 920 CPU, the company's new product has superior performance, efficiency, and updated camera compatibility. The latest smartphones with Dimensity 1080 will enter the market sometime in Q4 2022, according to information provided by MediaTek.

The MediaTek Dimensity chipset is what?

The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 line of 5G-integrated chips is robust. It offers great CPU, graphics, and AI performance, excellent cameras, cutting-edge multimedia, and the choice of sub-6GHz and mmWave connection, providing unique smartphone experiences that will impress.

Features of MediaTek's 1080p resolution

  • Utilizing TSMC's 6nm technology, the MediaTek 1080 Chipset is created.
  • Two ARM Cortex-A78 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.6GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2GHz make up the octa-core CPU of the Time equally 1080.
  • An ARM Mali G68 GPU is present for graphics processing.
  • Additionally, this new chipset has a Hyper-Engine 3.0 networking engine, support for LPDDR5 memory, and UFS 3.1 storage.
  • This new SoC supports cameras with up to 200MP resolution in terms of photography. The chipset's ISP can also record 4K HDR videos.
With its Dimensity chip family, MediaTek actively pursues the incorporation of its silicon into an increasing number of smartphones. However, despite having full-featured flagship processors like the Dimensity 9000, some of the most potent workhorses are found in its mid-range and low-cost SoCs. Dimensity 920, which has been found in devices like the Xiaomi Mi 11i, Realme 9 Pro Plus, and Realme Narzo 50 Pro, was released more than a year ago; it's time for some new blood. We're about to get that as MediaTek finally introduces the new MediaTek 1080 Chipset.

Display

The chipset supports Full HD+ displays with refresh rates of 120 Hz in terms of display capabilities. Regarding the remaining characteristics, the MediaTek 1080 supports the SA/NSA sub-6 GHz 5G network, Wi-Fi 6, and AI Processing Unit (APU).

MediaTek's processor Performance

The performance of MediaTek's processors is good. Their more core processors let them execute large, intense tasks and excel at multitasking. Gaming, handling demanding and complex jobs, and multitasking are all areas where Snapdragon performs even better.

What Is Different If the CPU Is Nearly Identical?

If you were going to guess GPU, it's the same Mali-G68 MC4 we discussed previously. Fortunately, as we start to focus on the periphery, tangible advancements begin to emerge, such as support for 200MP cameras, which is a developing trend right now and undoubtedly will only intensify in 2023 across premium and low-cost phones equally. Support for 120Hz panels, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6 are all present. With support for improved cameras and other more modern connectivity features, this may even feel like a sidegrade from its predecessor. The performance of the Dimensity 920 was already adequate, so this isn't a concern since budget-conscious phones shouldn't be pursuing pure speed. And to be perfectly honest, the sound of a Dimensity 920 with faster clock rates and support for 200MP cameras isn't at all horrible.

MediaTek processor security

In a paper, Check Point Research (CPR) claimed that it has discovered security issues in the MediaTek processor chip used in 37% of all smartphones worldwide. The audio processor on the chip was where the security holes were found.

Reliability of MediaTek

It has long been believed that MediaTek chips are unsuitable for cell phones. This is far from the case, however, as MediaTek has recently demonstrated their incredible capacity to provide a dependable and resilient smartphone user experience in all respects.

Conclusion

We concluded that MediaTek is introducing a new mid-tier chipset. Compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 920, the Mediatek 1080 chipset offers higher performance, efficiency, and camera support.
