Qualcomm has finally revealed the Snapdragon 8 Gen chipset. The emerging company made it with a focus on on-device generative AI to support the upcoming Android smartphones. The chipset is built on a 4nm process, cortex-X4, and 240fps graphics. The upgraded GPU sustains advanced performance in challenging gaming and graphics improvements. It is powered with direct support for a chatbot proficient on an LLM.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 speeds up the processing activities and arrives with a sturdy 1+5+2 core configuration. It enables the flagship chipset to surpass its predecessor’s performance. The latest chip’s new CPU core processor is incorporated with the Prime Cortex X4 core clocked at 3.3GHz. It is followed by five performance cores running up to 3.2 GHz and two efficiency cores at up to 2.3 GHz. Qualcomm claims that the latest CPU configuration is 30% faster and 20% more power-efficient than the previous model. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also has 25% updated Adreno GPU which offers improved power performance.

Qualcomm has empowered it with LPDDR5x memory support equipped with 4800 MHz and up to 24 GB.

In competing in the world of AI, CPU, GPU, and the Hexagon NPU of the newly launched chip are 98% quicker and 40% more efficient in performing AI tasks than Gen 2. The latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 can operate LLMs (Large Language Models), and Meta’s LLaMA 2 7B enables it to run up to 20 tokens/second. Moreover, the flagship chipset supports LVM (Language Vision Models) and transformer network-based ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition).

Qualcomm’s AI Engine has introduced multi-model generative AI model support to provide a faster and better experience to Android users. It also accesses users’ personal data to provide adequate AI responses. Qualcomm boasts that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is packed with advanced AI abilities to deliver better camera sensors and improved HDR as well.

The chip can support 24-bit 96 kHz lossless music over Bluetooth. An object eraser in the chip can delete any unwanted object from videos. We hope to have the devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the near future.
